Approximately one-third of students go home to an empty house after dismissal from school. These “latch-key” kids are generally home alone for two to three hours. It is during these hours that the juvenile crime rate is at its highest. Youth also participate in smoking and drinking during these unsupervised times. Xertion is partnering with Northgate Community Church to develop After School Programs to serve these students and help them grow academically as well as in the Arts and Music. College and University students will serve as tutors to Junior and Senior High students.
